Michelle’s Style Story
Life: Mum of two and self-employed, balancing family life with running her own business
Lifestyle: Working from home, school runs, networking, presenting and socialising
Life Stage: A fresh start following divorce, with a renewed focus on herself, her health and her confidence
The Goal: To rediscover her femininity, inject some glamour into her everyday style and feel confident in the body she has now
The Swish: Colour Analysis + Wardrobe Edit + Personal Shopping + Seasonal Wardrobe Edits
After finalising her divorce and setting up a new home with her two children, Michelle was entering a completely new chapter. Shared custody meant she had more time to herself, and she was ready to invest some of that time back into her.
Her wardrobe needed to work hard. As a self-employed business owner, she needed to feel confident at networking events and when presenting, but her everyday life still involved working from home, school runs and time with friends.
Most importantly, Michelle didn't want to wait until she'd reached a particular weight or fitness goal to feel good about herself. She wanted to rediscover her style and confidence now.
1. Where Michelle Started
Michelle and I had known each other through networking for some time, so when she approached me, I knew she was going through a period of real change.
Her body had changed during a difficult few years and, although she was beginning a new health and weight-loss journey, we both agreed that feeling good shouldn't be something she had to put off until she'd reached a goal.
Her wardrobe had become very safe and practical — lots of jeggings and longer tops — and no longer reflected the confident, feminine woman she wanted to see when she got dressed.
2. What Michelle Wanted
Michelle wanted to redefine her style for this new chapter of her life.
We needed to bring back some glamour, femininity and personality, while keeping everything realistic for her day-to-day life. She wasn't looking for a high-maintenance wardrobe — she still needed comfortable, easy clothes for working from home and doing the school run.
The challenge was finding that balance: comfortable without feeling frumpy, feminine without feeling overdone, and polished when she needed to step into professional settings.
3. What We Discovered
-
Michelle is a Summer, giving us a beautiful palette to work with. She naturally loved pops of colour, so understanding which shades suited her gave us a much clearer foundation for introducing colour while building the rest of her wardrobe around versatile basics.
-
With an apple body shape, we focused on shapes and proportions that flattered Michelle's figure and made her feel confident — rather than hiding behind longer, looser clothes.
-
Michelle's natural style is simple and classic with a feminine edge. She doesn't want anything overly complicated or fussy, but she does enjoy personality, colour and the occasional statement piece.
-
We needed alternatives to the trusty jeggings. Great trousers, denim and simple dresses gave Michelle comfortable foundations that could be styled in different ways for work, home and social occasions.
-
Comfortable doesn't have to mean frumpy. Michelle could have the ease she needed for everyday life without sacrificing feeling stylish, feminine and put together.
4. What We Did
We started with Colour Analysis before moving into Michelle's wardrobe, stripping out pieces that felt dated or no longer reflected her and identifying the clothes that could be given a new lease of life through different styling.
Then came Personal Shopping — and that was a real turning point.
We found new shapes, better basics and pieces that pushed Michelle just far enough outside her comfort zone. A gorgeous jumpsuit became a brilliant go-to for events and presenting, while simple flattering dresses gave her an effortless way to feel pulled together.
There was even a rather space-age silver skirt that became the mascot of our shopping trip — proof that sometimes the things that feel furthest outside your comfort zone are the most fun to try.
But our work didn't end there.
5. The Results
Michelle has since come back for Seasonal Wardrobe Edits, and I think that's been one of the most valuable parts of our work together.
Style isn't static, and neither is life. Those follow-up sessions have given us an opportunity to check in, revisit Michelle's goals and bring things back into focus when life's inevitable challenges have knocked her off course.
We've rediscovered pieces she'd previously dismissed — including a coat she thought was outside her comfort zone that turned out to be the perfect winter layer — and continued building outfits around a mixture of great basics, flattering silhouettes, colour and those all-important hero pieces.
Rather than having separate wardrobes for being a mum, working from home, networking and going out, Michelle now has a wardrobe she can flex around all the different parts of her life.
““I had such a lovely time working with Alice. We went shopping together and it felt more like a fun day out than a styling session.
She helped me find outfits I genuinely loved, but also gave me loads of ideas about what suited me and how to put things together in ways I wouldn’t necessarily have thought of myself.
I came away with some brilliant new pieces, lots more confidence in what to look for, and a much better idea of how to make my wardrobe work for me. And we had a lot of fun doing it!”

6. Final Thoughts
What I love about Michelle's Style Story is that it hasn't been a one-off transformation with a neat beginning and end.
We've worked together as her life and style have continued to evolve.
There have been new discoveries, changes in confidence, pieces that have surprised us and moments when we've needed to reset and reconnect with what she wanted in the first place.
Because finding your style isn't about reaching some imaginary finished version of yourself. It's about learning how to dress and enjoy the woman you are right now — and allowing your wardrobe to evolve with you.
