Linda's Style Story | A Personal Styling Makeover
Life: Active, outdoorsy and happiest spending time in the garden
Lifestyle: Practical and relaxed, with time spent with friends and family
Life Stage: Ready to put herself first and rediscover some confidence in her clothes
The Goal: To move beyond her everyday jeans-and-jumper uniform and discover how to dress her shape with more confidence
The Swish: Style Makeover
Linda came to me after winning a Style Makeover competition, having been nominated by her daughter who wanted to treat her lovely mum to something that was completely about her.
Linda already loved colour and wasn't afraid of wearing her favourite teals, corals and purples. But when it came to shape and styling, her confidence wasn't quite there. Comfort and practicality had become the priority and she'd found herself relying on the same familiar combinations again and again.
It was time to bring back a little of her style mojo.
1. Where Linda Started
Linda leads a very active life and loves gardening, so her clothes genuinely needed to be practical.
But practicality had gradually become a uniform: jeans or trousers with a jumper, whether she was at home or heading out with friends and family.
She rarely reached for dresses or pieces with much detail and, without any real change between her everyday and going-out wardrobe, she'd begun to feel stuck in a bit of a style rut.
The interesting thing was that Linda wasn't afraid of clothes. She loved colour. She simply needed more confidence in how to dress her shape and put everything together.
2. What Linda Wanted
This experience was really about showing Linda what was possible.
We weren't trying to turn her into somebody else or create a wardrobe that wouldn't work for her everyday life. We wanted to keep the comfort and practicality she valued, while introducing more shape, detail and femininity.
Most importantly, I wanted Linda to see just how fabulous her figure was — and stop feeling as though she needed to hide it.
3. What We Discovered
-
Linda already had a natural instinct for colour. Her colouring worked beautifully with a warm, muted palette with rich tones — perfect for the teals, corals, purples and autumnal shades she already loved.
-
One of our biggest discoveries was the impact proportion was having on Linda's outfits.
Long tops worn over trousers were visually elongating her body and making her legs appear shorter. By introducing a little more definition at the waist, we could completely change the balance of her silhouette.
-
We experimented with belts, tie and wrap tops and subtle tucking to create shape without making anything feel overly fitted.
We also looked at necklines and detailing around the neck and shoulders to create balance through her upper body.
-
Linda had fabulous legs! So rather than hiding them, we brought the hemlines up a little and made them part of the look.
4. What We Did
The transformation wasn't about making Linda's style complicated. It was about making a few clever changes to the way she dressed.
We played with proportion, defined her waist and introduced different necklines and styling details. We kept the beautiful colours she already loved, but showed her how to use them within outfits that felt more considered.
And importantly, we encouraged her to try pieces she wouldn't normally have chosen for herself — including shorter hemlines and more feminine silhouettes.
Sometimes the smallest styling changes can make the biggest difference.
5. The Results
By the end of the day, Linda was seeing both her clothes and herself differently.
She hadn't lost the comfort and practicality that mattered to her. Instead, we'd shown her how those things could exist alongside colour, shape and a little more personality.
Most importantly, she'd started thinking differently about how she dressed — moving beyond the familiar jeans-and-jumper formula and seeing just how much fun she could have with her style.
“I have had the most amazing day. I have been so pleased with the outfits you put together for me today. It really has been an eye opener for me and made me think about the way I dress!”

6. Final Thoughts
What I loved about working with Linda was that she already had one of the most important ingredients for great personal style — she knew what she loved.
She wasn't afraid of colour and she didn't need an entirely new identity. She simply needed someone to show her how a few changes in proportion, shape and styling could make those clothes work so much harder for her.
And sometimes, having somebody else remind you of all the things worth showing off is exactly the style reset you need.
