The Swish: Colour Analysis + Personal Shopping
After years working for the same company, Lindsay was about to make a big change when we met — leaving corporate life behind to pursue a long-held dream of training to become a counsellor.
She had also been on a weight-loss journey and was feeling confident in her body, but her wardrobe hadn't quite caught up. Her clothes still belonged to the old Lindsay: corporate, dated and no longer reflective of where her life was heading.
She wanted this next chapter to feel different — and she wanted her style to come along for the ride.
1. Where Lindsay Started
Lindsay came to me at a real turning point. She was feeling positive and confident about the changes she'd made in her life, but had lost her sense of personal style somewhere along the way.
Her wardrobe was still rooted in her previous corporate life, while the reality of becoming a mature student called for something much more relaxed, comfortable and easy to wear.
She followed fashion and knew what she liked when she saw it, but wasn't always sure how to translate trends into outfits that actually suited her.
2. What Lindsay Wanted
Lindsay wanted her clothes to reflect the person she was becoming — more fun, playful and stylish, while still feeling completely like her.
She needed outfits that were easy and comfortable enough for studying, but polished enough to work for meeting friends and, eventually, seeing clients.
Most importantly, she wanted some guidance on how to introduce new shapes, colours and trends without feeling as though she was trying too hard or dressing like somebody else.
3. What We Discovered
-
Lindsay is a Winter, so we could move beyond relying on black and introduce stronger pops of colour from her seasonal palette — shades that still felt chic and sophisticated, but brought much more energy to her outfits.
-
With a pear body shape, we looked at the silhouettes and proportions that worked beautifully with Lindsay's figure, giving her a clearer idea of what to look for when trying new styles.
-
Lindsay naturally gravitates towards simple pieces, classic colours and uncomplicated outfits, but we discovered there was room to bring in a more playful, contemporary edge while retaining the chic, luxe feel she loves.
-
The big gap was casual clothing that wasn't sportswear — comfortable, easy outfits for everyday life that still made her feel stylish and put together.
-
Comfort doesn't have to mean leggings!
4. What We Did
We started with Colour and Body Shape Analysis, which became about much more than identifying flattering colours and silhouettes. It gave Lindsay an opportunity to talk about her previous style, old body insecurities and how she wanted to move forward with this new-found confidence.
Then came the Personal Shop — and that was the revelation.
I piled Lindsay up with different styles and shapes of denim and we worked through them one by one, experimenting until we found the cuts that really worked.
We introduced barrel-leg jeans with trainers and easy tops, explored new denim silhouettes and moved beyond an all-black comfort zone with pops of colour from her Winter palette.
The result was still relaxed and easy — just considerably more stylish.
5. The Results
By the end, Lindsay had found something she'd been struggling to achieve on her own: casual clothes that felt comfortable without defaulting to sportswear.
The new denim gave her an easy foundation to build around, while understanding her colours, shape and proportions gave her the confidence to experiment with her wardrobe in a completely different way.
She now had looks that worked for studying and everyday life, but could equally take her to meet friends or future clients — and, most importantly, they felt right for this new version of Lindsay.
“Alice - the universe brought us together back in May through a chance conversation in your fantastic shop - The Swish Shop. I’m beyond happy that I took the opportunity to meet you for a colour and style analysis at the exact right time in my life :) To follow up with a personal shopping experience with you was the icing on the cake for me. 6. Final Thoughts
What I loved most about working with Lindsay was that this wasn't really about replacing a corporate wardrobe with a casual one. It was about helping her dress for the life she'd worked so hard to create.
Her confidence was already there — she just needed her clothes to catch up.
Seeing her discover that she could be comfortable, relaxed and practical while still feeling stylish was such a lovely moment. And I'll never look at a pile of jeans in quite the same way again!
